Oh, what a day this has been Up at 3 am and back down again Broke the morning's dawn with my best friend He's slept inside my bed since the vows we said. Outside in the backyard the children Drink up all the light They chase the chickens round, peals of delight. Smell of bacon lingers in the air... I'll leave the laundry for another hour If I'd finished school, And you’d climbed the corporate ladder We could have that bigger place, Our pockets would be fatter, Oh no now baby, let's steal away This is better than a Roth IRA Bit by bit you know it took some time to unwind From head-over-our-heels, to the daily grind I'd rather be broke with you And have this softer heart. It warms me up inside to be your counterpart. Sometimes it's all we can do To get up out of bed Just to tie our shoelaces And keep the household fed Oh no now look at what we can make: This is better than that cruise we didn't take. We're folded up here in this house Like a pack o' sardines I'm ready for some room, unfold my wings. You and I, we learn our lessons the hard way Always diggin’ up all the gold from the clay... Hardest part about living is the day-to-day It's the best thing we've got This home that we've made. I'm glad to weave my world with you This is one thing ain't no one can undo. Sometimes it's all we can do To get up out of bed Just to tie our shoelaces And keep the household fed Oh no now look at what we can make: This is better than a Roth IRA

The Liar 04:06
There was a fire, cross the fairway from our home The son was a liar, come he started it all alone hairspray and a lighter, burnin bugs up in the eves The fire department didn't get there leaving only ash and grief Then there were hours, sitting up there on the roof We were inspired by the sunset and the folly of our youth Then we started slippin’ backward Grasping desperately at straw Crying out to Jesus cause a myth was all we saw Easter morning seemed so holy God I swear I’d made it through At the sound of a cracked bell the hand I brushed was you Ashes in the garden Growing hops and holly-hocks Answers in the roses, and the aspen leaves that dropped SETH: There was a fire, in a dream I had last night CHINA: You were beside me and your eyes were shining bright BOTH: woke up in a cold sweat I was searching for first light We had been rubbing sticks together to suddenly ignite SETH ONLY: There was a fire, cross the fairway from our home The bastard was a liar, ‘cose he started it on his own.

about

The Nowhere Farm Sessions was recorded over the course of two days at Nowhere Farm in Highland County, Ohio, where Americana duo, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist of Over the Rhine presided as Executive Producers. These two songs reflect a simple, tender, stripped down feel that comes only from returning to the center; of a nation, a relationship, a soul. Both China and Seth have ancestral roots in the Midwest, and their return to these roots is beautifully revealed in these songs.

Alright Alright Denver, Colorado

What do you get when a classically trained pianist falls in love with a guy who learned to play guitar on a beach in Hawaii? Alright Alright! Their piano-based folk Americana adds a sprinkle of rock, a dash of cabaret and a whole lot of charisma to their dynamic, and eclectic musical endeavors while blending a heavy dose of harmony, and a filter of whatever instruments are on hand. ... more
