The first in Alright Alright's installment of red-white-and-blue Americana, "Luckiest Girl in America," was written upon the return from a trip China Kent took to mainland China (#chinainchina). Experiencing re-entry into her native land was powerful and evoked a sense of gratitude that had hitherto been obscured by cynicism. The truth is, she sings, we have "so much to be grateful for, America." This song is an attempt to grapple with the alternating experience of hope and despair in a beloved homeland.

Stars and bars, homecoming football on Friday night,
Tuck me in tight.
Lemonade, hot dogs and baseball diamonds bright,
It'll be alright.
Far be it from me to tout manifest destiny
but here in this corner I'm finding the best of me.
I woke up this morning and realized

I am the luckiest girl in America, America
and you can find it right here in America, America

They taught me to be patriotic, I have grown cynical,
oh my oh my...
Mother of exiles caught in the corner
The torch and crown in fading light.
And my great-grandma Nellie didn't homestead for nothing,
America can you still promise me something?
I'll wake up tomorrow and realize

All I see are blue skies in America, America
and you can become your best self America, America.

It's Friday night, we can't find a sitter so we just stay home,
I turn off my phone.
Uncork that bottle we've been savin' since Christmas,
Let's toast the night by candlelight.
We cracked the code to ordinary glory
Weaving a love song and singing our story
We wake up tomorrow and realize

We've been the luckiest people, America, America
So much to be grateful for, America
I am the luckiest girl in America, America
I won't take you for granted America,
All of us, All of us, the luckiest people America
