about

Written in stages over a few years, then recorded in three separate locations, "The Scent of Honeysuckle" represents everything that Alright Alright is about: namely collaboration and artistry. Featuring gorgeous glass harp timbres by Jonny Rodgers of Cindertalk, and China Kent's lush piano and vocal arrangements, "Scent" hits home for us. We hope you love it. We are pretty sure you will.

lyrics

The Jester comes, he lights up the stage for me;

I am ready now.

Balls fly, the people chuckle, bells ring;

I am ready now.

The Joke is told – whispers, laughter scurry ‘round,

Two years ago I was unprepared;

Now the doorbell rings, the screen door opens,

here I stand Alone.

What a waxy film of ennui, what a way to go.

First the Night Sweats then the Appetite Halts -

The coaxing and swaying of wills to eat, wills to live,

Then the shutting down.

The heart an old Lion

decides to recline.

Snippets here and there of memory –

Cicadas in the heat, steam from the bathroom.

Wounds received, wounds inflicted;

A baseball soaring through the air

The scent of honeysuckle everywhere.

The Jester comes, he lights up the stage for me;

I am ready now.

The Jester comes, he sweeps up the stage for me;

eady now.
