about

China Kent, front woman of Alright Alright, wrote Too Much in a songwriting workshop as a 30 minute exercise, and the song has been a staple of Alright Alright’s live show ever since. As the 9th installment in their year-long Song-O-The-Month project, this song takes on a much more traditional folk Americana vibe than much of the band’s other work. “I wanted it to feel like we were just sitting on a front porch playing together…somehow with a Hammond B3 organ” she said, and the song accomplishes this goal with finesse. “Too Much” was recorded as a student project with several students in the Recording Arts program at the University of Colorado, Denver, including bandmate Katelin Champion, who engineered and co-produced along with Seth and China. Americana Folk at its finest: order up!

lyrics

Mama, write me a letter
tell me we are still friends
tell me that there's forgiveness
maybe then my crooked heart would mend.

Am I a raging wave crashing toward the land?
Or am I the magnet moon making seas kiss the sand?
Oh I know that I am too much,
too tender for you to touch.

I wore your dress tot hat party.
It hugged me close and tickled my skin
climb down from your cherry tree
maybe we could begin again.

Am I as frightening as the lightening rain?
Or am I the razor knife blade made for the pain?
Oh I know that I am too much
too tender for you to touch.

Am I a raging wave crashing toward the land?
Or am I the magnet moon making seas kiss the sand?
Oh I know that I am too much,
yes I know that I am too much
Oh I know that I am too much
too naked for you to touch.
